For new SMSFs engaging a tax agent, you can submit the SMSF ABN registration form and specifying your tax agent as your representative, eliminating the need to go through the standard client-to-agent linking procedures.
For existing SMSFs you’ll need to follow the client-agent linking steps in Online services for business (OSB) if you:
For SMSFs with an individual trustee, the linking process can be completed by a single trustee through the setup and access of Online Services for Business, followed by the agent nomination.
For SMSFs with a corporate trustee, the principal authority must oversee the client-to-agent linking process. After establishing their myGovID, they should contact the ATO at 13 28 66 for assistance in linking the fund’s ABN to their myGovID via the Relationship Authorization Manager.
You should get all your details up to date on the Australian Business Register (ABR) as this will assist in the client-to-agent linking process.
